about
for publication: is a research project about artists’ books and the act of publishing in a networked 21st century environment.
From the gesture to the object, from the act to the material, from the operating mode to the figure of thought—the research conceives artists’ publications as a phenomenon that starts from the process of making content available and ends with the provided medium. The research is centred around the thematic, formal and material premises of objects and processes, which were published or initiated by artists and which inscribe themselves as artworks in the public realm of mass media communication as well as they manifest themselves as singular appearances in the art space.
More than just a “project for the page”, the book and its relevants are understood as an extended artistic scope, having developed from an extraordinary appearence to an established art form by no later than the 1960s. for publication: investigates this form of artistic production by its own means—the means of publishing—and puts it up for negotiation under the altered media theoretical, aesthetical and social circumstances of the 21st century.
